Hochalmspitze (3360m)

Hochalmspitze (Carinthia) Approach: A10 Exit Gmünd, direction Malta, intersection to Gößkarspeicher on the right side. Altitude difference: parking lot-hut 700m, hut-summit 1000m Walking time: parking lot-hut 1,5h, hut-summit-hut 6-8h. Difficulty: difficult, you have to be able to climb (I-II) and to cross glaciers.

The Hochalmspitze (3360m) is a quiet difficult mountain, comparable to the highest mountain of Austria (Grossglockner). For this tour you will need a lot of alpine skills. You have to cross steep glaciers and you have to be able to climb a little bit. The whole round trip will take you about 9 to 12 hours. Don't go at bad weather conditions and when there is danger of ice on the rocks. You can ask the owner of the mountain hut (Giessener Huette) about the conditions before you go.

For this tour you will need equipment for rock climbing and for glaciers. This means rope for the glacier, crampons, ice axe and a climbing harness. On the climbing parts of the trail, you will find a steel rope, where you can clip in the harness.

This was one of my nicest mountain tours I made, but please go only with an experienced guide.
