25th of February 2002
Car trip, day
4: from Karasjok back to Ivalo - flight to Helsinki

Forenoon we visited the Sámi museum in Karasjok, which is far not so interesting as the museum in Inari.

We drove via Utsjoki back to Ivalo and we didn't saw any car for 70 kilometres.

At Ivalo airport we returned our car and waited for the plane. When we went out of the airport building in order to go to the plane on the tarmac, the whole air was full of glittering snow needles and in the sky above us Northern Lights performed their mystic dances. None of the passengers wanted to go into the plane and even the stewardess was watching this performance of the nature. After a while she remembered that we had to start in time and asked the 30 passengers kindly to get into the plane.

Even though it was a night flight, the full moon was shining so intense, that you could see every detail on the ground -  and even our skiing route.

Arrived at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, it was snowing lightly. We were the last plane on this day and a taxi driver took us for a very good price to our youth hostel in the Olympic stadium.

View of Karasjok. The tent like building on the left is the regional parliament of the Sámi people.
