The craggy Lebanon Mountains are ideal for hiking tours, like here near the village of Baslouqit.

In the background, you can see the coast and Tripoli.

Evening light in the mountains near the town of Bsharré.

A very impressive event is the sunset in the Mediterranean Sea on clear evenings.

Hiking tour near the beautiful monastery Deir Mar Antonios Qozhaya.

In the church of the Antonio-Monastery.

Landscape in the region of Ehden near the monastery.

The mountain village of Ehden is only inhabited in the summer month, when people from the coast go to their summer houses in the mountains.

Illuminated bell at Ehden.

Scene at the village Bqaa Kafra.

The Qadisha valley, also known as "Holy Valley", is one of the best hiking areas in Lebanon.

The farmers have to build terraces, to get land for growing wheat or fruits.

Hidden monastery in Qadisha valley.

Salon at the summer residence of the Maron patriarch near Hashroun. In salons like this, you meet people for talking or drinking coffee.

View from the town Bcharré into the Quadisha valley.

The church of Bsharré in the evening light.

The steep Qadisha valley was always a place of refuge for prosecuted minorities. That's the reason, why you can find so many monasteries and caves of hermits in this canyon.

View to Bsharre and toone of the last cedar forests in Lebanon (black stripe in the middle).

In the past, the whole Lebanon was covered by cedar forests, but already in ancient times the wood of the cedars was used for building temples (e.g. Solomons temple) and ships. Since the Roman times, nearly all old cedars where cut down.

The Lebanon cedar is a very slow growing tree and can reach an age of 3000 years!

Today there are only three rests of old cedar forests - the forest near Bscharre, the Arz Tannourine and one forest at the Chouf mountains (www.shoufcedar.org).
